Sarah and Ry’s love story is as unique as the landscape they chose for their wedding day. This amazing couple met back home in Australia, but their shared sense of adventure led them to New York City, where they spent six years building a life together. When I met them in Jackson, Wyoming, they were in the midst of an epic cross-country road trip, exploring the US in their campervan with their adorable pup, Rowan, by their side (sounds AMAZING, right?).
The decision to elope at Delta Lake in Grand Teton National Park was a natural fit for this adventurous couple. And let me tell you, they couldn’t have picked a more jaw-dropping location for their intimate ceremony!
Now, let’s talk about the Delta Lake hike because it’s not for the faint of heart! This 7.4-mile (11.9 km) round trip journey in Grand Teton National Park is considered strenuous, with a whopping 2,300 feet (700 m) of elevation gain. But trust me when I say that every step of this Wyoming adventure is worth it!
As we climbed the switchbacks, the world around us slowly came to life. The surrounding wildflowers, in full bloom, painted the landscape in a riot of colors. The Delta Lake hike throws a few challenges your way, including some sections of rock scrambling over boulder fields. But Sarah and Ry tackled each obstacle with determination and laughter, their excitement growing with every step towards their Delta Lake, Wyoming destination.
As we crested the final ridge, Delta Lake’s brilliant turquoise waters came into view, making the difficult hike instantly worth it. The Grand Teton, the tallest peak in the range, loomed majestically in the background, creating a scene so beautiful it almost didn’t seem real.
With the first rays of sunlight painting the sky in soft pinks and golds, Sarah and Ry exchanged their vows at Delta Lake in Grand Teton National Park. The intimacy of the moment, set against such a grand backdrop, was truly something special. As a national park elopement photographer, I’ve witnessed many beautiful ceremonies, but this one at Delta Lake in Grand Teton National Park? It was pure magic.
You might be wondering, “Why choose such a challenging hike for your wedding day?”. Well, that’s the beauty of elopements! They allow couples to celebrate their love in a way that’s true to who they are. For Sarah and Ry, that meant embracing the Delta Lake hike in the great outdoors and pushing themselves to reach new heights (literally!).
Delta Lake is a popular spot in Grand Teton National Park, and for good reason. Its stunning beauty draws hikers from all over. But here’s a pro tip from a seasoned Grand Teton elopement photographer: if you’re dreaming of a Delta Lake elopement in Wyoming and value privacy, aim for a sunrise ceremony. Not only will you likely have the place to yourselves, but you’ll also get to witness one of the most spectacular light shows nature has to offer.
While their wedding day at Delta Lake was undoubtedly the highlight, Sarah and Ry’s Grand Teton adventure didn’t end there. They spent their “honeymoon” exploring the surrounding Jackson Hole area with Rowan. Although the Delta Lake hike itself isn’t dog-friendly, the nearby national forest land offered plenty of pup-approved trails and campsites with stunning views of the Teton range.
