Mollie and Tyler’s decision to elope at Otter Point wasn’t just a spur-of-the-moment choice. Instead, it was the culmination of a deep connection they had developed with this breathtaking location. Two years ago, during a memorable vacation in Maine, they discovered Otter Point. This iconic spot truly nestles within Acadia National Park. The rugged cliffs, sweeping ocean views, and serene, untouched landscape made a lasting mark on their hearts, making it the perfect spot for an elopement.
If you’re considering your own Otter Point elopement, you should know that Acadia National Park offers more than just a beautiful setting. The natural beauty of Otter Point, with its panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding wilderness, creates a sense of timeless romance that is hard to find elsewhere. For Mollie and Tyler, eloping in a place that held such sentimental value allowed them to create a day that was not only about their commitment to each other but also about honoring their shared love for nature and the cherished memories they had built together.
Choosing Otter Point for their elopement also allowed them to focus on what truly mattered: their love for each other and the people closest to them. The simplicity of an elopement in such a stunning natural setting stripped away the distractions and stress that can come with a traditional wedding. Instead, they were able to immerse themselves fully in the moment, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the warmth of their immediate family.
Now, let’s jump into the details of the day. Firstly, Mollie and Tyler’s day began with a relaxed and joyful atmosphere. They wanted their day to feel authentic and stress-free, allowing them to savor every moment leading up to their vows. Tyler enjoyed a morning of golf with his friends. Meanwhile, Mollie and her best friend, Katie, enjoyed some downtime at their hotel. Laughter filled the room as Mollie’s mom helped her with her hair. Mollie did her own makeup, keeping things personal and special.
Thoughtful details filled their day, adding a unique touch to their elopement. Mollie borrowed the garter her mom wore for her wedding, creating a beautiful “something borrowed” moment. The earrings she wore were a lovely gift from Tyler’s mom. Her bouquet, a surprise from her aunt, was a complimentary addition to her bridal look.
After a sweet first look at the hotel, we couldn’t resist stopping at a lemonade stand on our way to Acadia National Park. It turns out Mollie and Tyler weren’t the first couple to visit this stand on their wedding day. This unexpected visit added a fun, serendipitous touch to their story.
Next, Mollie and Tyler’s ceremony took place at the picturesque Otter Point. The rugged beauty of Acadia National Park completely surrounded us. Both of their fathers have passed away, so they honored them by bringing photos to ensure their presence in spirit. It was a touching tribute that added a deeply personal element to their ceremony.
Finally, after their heartfelt ceremony, family headed back to the hotel while we stayed in Acadia for some portraits. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we captured stunning sunset portraits along the coast. To top it off, the sight of a seal swimming by and feeding from a bait ball of fish was an unexpected and fun moment in their day.
The day finished back at the hotel with a cozy family gathering. We had pizza and homemade cake from Mollie and Tyler’s moms. This made for a delicious and heartwarming end to their celebration. As the sun set over Frenchman Bay, the newlyweds and their families enjoyed a peaceful and joyful end to a perfect day.
Mollie and Tyler were kind enough to share their experience working with me:
“We found Sarah by the grace of God on Google and are forever grateful that we had her to photograph our wedding in Bar Harbor, Maine! Sarah was organized, prepared, and offered wonderful suggestions. On our first phone call with her she was able to show us various options for where we could hold a ceremony and helped us to figure out a location that would be best not only for us, but for our 11 guests (ages 6 years to 63 years old). Her Guide to Elopement was a big help to think of all of the little details, so nothing was overlooked/missed. I am not a great planner and she helped to make the process simple and enjoyable! She created a wonderful timeline for us but also was flexible, easy going, and went with the flow of our day so we felt no pressure and truly enjoyed every moment. Not only was she very sweet and amazing to work with, but her pictures speak for themselves. We have so many photographs we love and when we look at them they bring us right back to that day. I highly recommend having Sarah join you on your special day! She was a joy to work with and we are in love with every photo she took!”
