There’s something unmatched about an Icelandic wedding. The landscape is wild and breathtaking—think endless green valleys, towering waterfalls, and black sand beaches that look like they belong on another planet.
Even with Iceland gaining popularity, it still feels untouched in so many places, making it perfect for couples who want intimacy without giving up epic views. And with the freedom to explore and celebrate at your own pace, an Iceland elopement or small wedding feels completely personal.
Layla and Kyle started their Icelandic wedding weekend by getting out into nature right away. We explored a few short trails (the kind where you’re five minutes in and already staring at a waterfall), soaking in the fresh air and dramatic views.
One of our first stops was Skógafoss waterfall—a spot that’s earned its reputation for a reason. The waterfall was roaring, the mist hung in the air just right, and the scale of it made everything feel a little more magical. We took our time capturing portraits here, with the water adding texture and movement to every shot.
But the real magic happened at a nearby hidden waterfall, where they exchanged vows in private. There are waterfalls literally everywhere in Iceland, but this one felt like it was meant for them. The sound of the rushing water, the soft wind, and the complete stillness around us—it was the kind of moment you remember forever.
The next day, we headed to Reynisfjara Beach for Layla and Kyle’s newlywed portraits. If you haven’t heard of this place before, it’s famous for a reason. The black sand, dramatic sea stacks, and massive basalt columns make it one of the most unique places to photograph in the world.
We went right before sunset, and the sky absolutely showed off. It turned fiery orange, then soft pink, reflecting off the ocean and black sand in the most surreal way. Layla wore a cozy Icelandic sweater. Kyle’s neutral tones kept the focus right where it belonged—their connection and happiness.
This part of the Icelandic wedding experience felt like a dream. It was peaceful, bold, and intimate all at once (and yes, we took about a million photos).
One of my favorite things about Layla and Kyle’s Icelandic wedding was how simple—but intentional—everything felt. No packed venues. No tight schedules. Just freedom to explore and celebrate how they wanted.
They laughed, hiked, got a little wet from waterfall mist, and said “I do” in one of the most stunning places on earth. That’s the beauty of planning a small wedding in Iceland. The landscape does all the heavy lifting when it comes to scenery, so all you have to do is be present with each other.

As a photographer, I get to witness so many special days. But, Layla and Kyle’s intimate Icelandic wedding will stay with me for a long time. Not just because of the scenery (though wow, right?), but because of how it all felt.
It was honest. It was full of joy and peace. And it was exactly what they wanted—a celebration that felt true to them.
